Sluice Boxes

A sluice box is a long, narrow channel used by prospectors to separate gold from gravel and sand. Water flows through the box, washing material over riffles—small barriers that create eddies. These eddies trap the heavier gold particles while lighter material is carried away. It’s a simple, effective tool that lets prospectors process much more material than panning alone.
